Small changes can have big impacts. The women in the Life on Purpose meeting group, part of the Lightkeepers chapter of the Family of Women, really believe that. We can prove it to you with countless stories, though consider this one data point. According to the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), recycling 10 plastic bottles saves enough energy to power a laptop for more than 25 hours. We’re pretty sure everyone reading this post is recycling plastic bottles and therefore all of you are contributing to saving lots of energy!
Let’s keep going. Our community service project this cycle is to celebrate Earth Day by asking everyone to make a commitment to begin an Earth Friendly habit and to make a more environmentally-friendly choice in your everyday life. We have curated a list of ideas (small changes) to make this easy. Most likely you’re doing many of these things already. We encourage you to pick something new for Earth Day 2021 and declare your commitment at our Earth Day Zoom party on April 22. RSVP here.
If you can’t make it to our Zoom party, send us an email to make your commitment.
THE MASTER LIST of IDEAS to REDUCE, REUSE AND RECYCLE
Once again citing the EPA, the most environmentally preferred strategy to reduce waste is to not create waste in the first place.
• Sign up for electronic invoices, statements, banking and bill paying. The trees say Thank You.
• Order your take-out without plastic utensils and napkins. Bring your own take out dishes when possible to avoid hot food in plastic containers.
• Switch to cloth napkins and washable cleaning cloths instead of paper towels and paper napkins. Remember don’t use fabric softener when washing so they absorb better.
And there’s more – click here to get the entire list.
Do you want to be the Ultimate Recycler for Earth Day?
Register to be an organ donor.
Anne Marie, an amazing woman in our meeting group, almost didn’t get to be a grandmother because her heart was failing. Thanks to the generosity of a registered organ donor, baby Xander now gets to play and grow up with his grandma. Donors rock!

April is Organ Donation Awareness Month across Canada and National Donate Life Month in the United States. As part of our Earth Day community service project, we are asking our Family of Women community to bring awareness of donor registration to your families and friends. To save lives and change the world, register to be an organ and tissue donor. In Canada, please go to beadonor.ca and in the US, visit donatelife.net. Once you’re registered, inform your family of your decision.
Please see the About Donation page in Canada and the FAQ page in the US for more information. People of all ages and medical histories should consider themselves potential donors. Your medical condition at the time of death will determine what organs and tissues can be donated.
Thank you for being a part of our community service project.
